My name is Ben Craig and here I thought I would write just a little bit about myself and my work.
I was born and brought up in Christchurch, New Zealand. I've had the pride in the south since 1986. In 2000 I moved to the city of sails, Auckland and this is where I still reside now on the North Shore.
One day I was rummaging through the house when I came across an old HTML book. The cover told me "Create your own website in minutes!" To me that sounded awesome! I was getting bored with the same old computer games. I wanted more from my computer. And ever since I finished reading that book I knew that I was in love and web design was the career for me.
So after a few years of playing around at home making websites for all my friends, my pets and my computer games. I decided in 2004 to attend Natcoll Design Institute in Auckland's city to study Web Design.
Natcoll helped me with my skills and understanding in the fundamentals of design for the web, including graphic design, interactivity, web architecture, and multimedia for web delivery. I was taught new ways to develop and apply creativity in a range of web-related projects. And I was prepared for my entry to the web design industry.
During my course at Natcoll we were introduced to PHP and MySQL. This then became another love for me. PHP is my main focus in web. I love building big dynamic projects with lots of functions and interaction for the user (Forums, Auctions, Content Management, Shopping Carts).
Since 2004 I have been freelancing from home doing websites and graphic design under the name of Ben Craig Design.
Soon I would like to move into a web design company and develop my skills even more. In the mean time I am currently doing a Joinery apprenticeship where I am learning cabinet making, kitchens, stairs, exterior/interior house and more. Joinery is another passion for me I really enjoy building furniture and would love to build or at least do a decent renovation of a house and fill it all with homemade furniture.
Japan and the people are a big interest of mine as well. I am doing night classes in Japanese language at NZJS. Once I complete these classes I would like to get a working visa for Japan and try for some web design work in Tokyo.
